What is a good dress for a 1950s themed wedding?

My friend is getting married and having a '50s themed wedding. She wants to wear a dress that she can wear with a birdcage veil and pearls. She'd love to wear a dress like this:
prom dress
However, she's worried it won't go with the theme of the wedding. Any suggestions? To me, that dress could be a 50's ball gown :) add some gloves and accessories and it will be perfect :)Actually, strapless dresses WERE worn in the 50s. Wedding dresses weren't strapless, though, but formal gowns were many times strapless. My mother was a beauty queen in the 50s and there are many pictures of her wearing strapless ball gowns.

If your friend wants to wear a true 50s style wedding dress, though, it wouldn't be strapless. But, she's having a wedding, not staging a historical re-enactment,school prom so if she wants to wear a strapless dress, she should go ahead.Strapless wedding gowns were not worn in the 50's. Your friend needs to do some research into the fashions of the 50's if she is going to have a 50's themed wedding. Also the 50's were 10 years long and fashion was different from early 50's to late 50's......she needs to pick a time frame also.Nothing 50's about this dress. Strapless wedding gowns were not in fashion then.

Fitted, maybe with a peplum, long or 3/4 sleeves, v neckline but with a stand-up collar (like a portrait frame), no cleavage. Pearls and birdcage hat veil, prom dress uk OK.Hi you can find huge collection of wedding dress with this amount go to mybridaldress for latest wedding dress collection.Tell her to get an off-the-shoulder dress with a full skirt. My grandmother wore a dress like that to her wedding in '49. Not quite the fifties, but close enough.

What are the superstitions about wearing your wedding dress before you get marri

What are the superstitions about wearing your wedding dress before you get married outside of bridal shops?

My sister is getting married soon, are there any superstitions about wearing he wedding dress out of bridal shops, or traditional things you can do?
nooooo - the only "superstition" is for the groom not to see the dress before the wedding.

Many brides get bridal portraits taken beforehand. prom dress

The traditional thing to do is keep it from getting dirty. The walk down the aisle is one of the most frightening and favorite experiences for the new bride and groom. And everything we do when we say "I do" is significant. From the kiss to the tossing of the bridal bouquet, everyone has their favorite part of the wedding. Yet despite the romantic undertones of today's weddings, few traditions began with love in mind. Many wedding traditions we still do today were the result of ancient superstitions about the joining of husband and wife. Following are some of those wedding superstitions that remind us that getting married is and never was something to be taken lightly: The Wedding Dress
Nothing means more to a bride than her wedding gown. Here are some old time superstitions connected to the most important dress a woman will ever wear:

The bride is said to be doomed if she wears her complete wedding outfit before the big day. The consequences of such an action can lead to heartbreak and tragedy.school prom

and more on the linkI don't know of anything like that, in fact it's a good idea to try on your gown once you take it home from the bridal shop just to make sure nothing happened to it the last time it was steamed. When I opened the garment bag at home last August, the seamstress had torn out stitching in the front of the gown while steaming it and when I put the gown on, my mother noticed another critical problem with the back of the dress, so I had to take it to another seamstress 3 days before my wedding to have it fixed.
I even have one friend who had pre bridal portraits done with her photog- in addition to the engagement session! The groom wasn't there to see her gown, but she did wear it and have her veil on and flowers, and her hair and makeup done and all, a few mos before the wedding. I don't know what the point of that is, you should save your money and do all that styling on the wedding day only.I have never heard of this suspicion. In fact, as others have been saying prom dress uk , it's always a good idea to try the dress on a few times before you wear it. Just to make sure it fits right on your wedding day. When my friend got hers online, I swear she tried it on about ten times afterward.I never heard of it. For me, the superstitions that are spread around do not have any power over God. God is in charge. I have only heard not to let the groom see the dress before marriage. It is a good surprise for him and the guests.

I am invited to a wedding in June and the dress code said summer evening casual.

I am invited to a wedding in June and the dress code said summer evening casual...what exactly is that?

Summer evening casual means . . a simple "sun dress" or a two piece matching blouse and skirt or a coordinated pant suit with a matching top. Your should wear either a dressy pair of sandals or low heeled shoes with a matching handbag to complement the outfit. You should not wear jeans, a halter top, cargo pants, shorts, flip flops, a cocktail dress or anything too revealing. I also suggest taking a light sweater or a shawl in case it gets cool in the evening. Answered by: A Certified wedding specialist / A Professional bridal consultant / A Wedding ceremony officiantThanks soooo much for ALL the feedback!!! You all have given me great ideas and a direction to head in!!It means you don't have to wear a gown! A pretty summer dress would be great! It means business casual. Nothing to formal but not jeans.I'd say either a casual, light summery dress. Or maybe a floaty summers skirt, sandals/smart flip flops and a smart top. Or maybe a pair of smart linen trousers and a nice top. Something along those lines anyway.Wear something pretty and flowing. No jeans, or cut off shorts.Or any type of shorts. Wear sandals,or a small wedged type of heal. Stay with cool colors, i.e, lights, violets, yellows, light blues.``its kinda like a casual summer dress bu t amybe a longer more evening gown typeWear a light dress shirt and a skirt maybe dress pants,
if you wanted to a summer dress would be okay.

But the point is to not over do it. So a really nice skirt and shirt would be fine..

What shoes should my 3 year old wear with her dress for her very first birthday party?

I'm making her dress in her size, but this is what it will look like: prom dress She picked it out, it was so cute how excited she got when she saw it!

I need a good pair of shoes to go with it though, suggestions? (At least 1 inch heel, but less than 3 inches)
Would a 6 inch heel with a 3 inch platform work? I think she would look absolutely adorable. All little girls love getting all dressed up, the fancier the better. Make sure to help her with her make up. I'm thinking you should give her a smoky eye with a dark lip. school promOoooh I was going to do the smoky eye thing but I was afraid it was too 2004??Awww..now that is darling! So girly and sweet! I love the plunging neckline. She'll look great in it. Let's see..might I suggest something like this for the shoes? They are a tad higher than what you want...but you can take a hack saw to 'em and bring it down a little. Good luck!Absolutely crazy. Are you raising a harlot? She needs a LITTLE GIRL DRESS. There are lots available this time of year. Oh, and white tights and black patent-leather shoes.Enough!! I'm gonna have an epileptic seizure from all the laughter.prom dress uk Oh wait, laughing will tighten up my abs so never mind. Are you serious your 3 yr old what kind of parent are you?

simple little black cocktail dress

July 01, 2011 at 4:53 AM in Food & Drink by Blog about ancism

I have a semiformal event to go to at 5:00 in the evening and i want to know what the proper dress would be?

I have been told that i could wear slacks but everything that i have looked at has told me that a cocktail dress or gown is the better option. Which is the better option to be soicially correct? I don't want to be dressed wrong since some of my bosses will be there? Can you help me?
Basic black knee length dress is your best bet. Accessorize with nice jewelry.Cocktail dress or very dressy pants outfit. Don't go for ultra sexy, but feminine is okay. Have a great time!I would say a lovely knee length dress. Here in the states it's referred to as tea-length.prom dress It will make a better statement than wearing slacks as people are used to seeing you that way. Let them see you in a different light :-) I think that a gown is too formal for 5:00pm.Slacks are not appropriate for a semi-formal event unless you are wearing a satin tuxedo suit. A simple little black cocktail dress would carry you through the evening just fine.Well Michelle, I presume you're female so why would you consider anything but female attire ? Get Serious. Wear a dress or gown for petesakes. Pants/slacks are menswear ! Gawd how simple is that ?You have gotten some good answers regarding a simple cocktail dress, but I wanted to correct someone that referred to a tea length dress. A tea length dress is actually on that falls mid-calf (against the shin) and is good for dressy afternoon parties.school prom If you found a nice black one that was tea length you would be fine, but they often tend to be of lighter colors or florals which would not be appropriate. As others have touched on make sure it is nice, semi-conservative and feminine. Nothing too flashy, revealing or sexy. You could wear a dressy pants suit but I think a dress would look nicer. Save floor length gowns for formal events. If it is for business, a nice business suit and heels works, a tea length dress for women is always better for semiformal wear, heels and nothing to low cut or backless if it is business,(unless a person wants to sleep up the latter) Black and white is always elegant, or navy blue and white. depending on your skin tone, some modern colors are OK to. The key to any business related event is to look current while still keeping it conservative prom dress uk, unless your in the entertainment business, then every one expects everyone else to dress flamboyantly.
